Our Mission
At Orthodoxy for Kids, our mission is to bring the richness of the Orthodox Christian faith into the lives of young children through engaging, accessible, and age-appropriate digital media. As a New Jersey nonprofit 501(c)(3), we were founded in response to the void of web-based Orthodox education for youth, an absence made especially clear during the COVID-19 pandemic. Guided by our motto, “Learning Orthodoxy Can Be Fun,” we create high-quality, animated didactic materials designed to introduce children ages 3–8 to the beauty of Orthodoxy in a joyful, loving, and non-judgmental way.
Through the Sophia animated series, we aim to provide young families (especially those navigating the challenges of mixed-faith households, busy work schedules, and modern-day secular pressures)with tools to foster faith at home. Our content supplements, rather than replaces, parish-based religious education by teaching prayers, hymns, feast days, sacraments, and the everyday life of the Church in ways children can easily absorb and remember. By blending Orthodox tradition with the creativity of modern animation, we seek to instill a lasting curiosity, reverence, and love for God, ensuring that the next generation grows up connected to the Orthodox faith, its community, and the joy of living in Christ.
Why Orthodoxy for Kids Was Created
Even before the pandemic, children were spending more time online than learning about their faith. Recognizing this gap, a group of dedicated Pan-Orthodox Christians came together to create a grassroots, nonprofit initiative that allows children to explore the internet safely while learning the basics of Orthodoxy in a fun, wholesome, and visually engaging way. This vision gave birth to Sophia, a friendly, faith-filled guide for young hearts.
Sophia brings the joy of Orthodoxy directly into your home, reaching children, grandchildren, Godchildren, relatives, Sunday School students, and newcomers to the faith with simple, child-friendly lessons proclaiming THE GOOD NEWS. Newsletter subscribers will periodically receive short 3–4 minute video lessons, downloadable coloring sheets that reinforce key concepts, Church vocabulary, and Bible passages.
Through every video, children will be introduced to prayers, hymns, and core teachings of Christianity in an approachable and memorable way. Our hope is that each lesson inspires curiosity, fosters faith, and draws young viewers closer to God while helping them grow in understanding of THE GOOD WORD.
